Discover concise answers to key questions about the Kohatian Foundation’s mission, initiatives, and ways to contribute
When was Kohatians Foundation established?
Kohatians Foundation was registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860, on December 08, 2009 at Peshawar (Regn. No. 487/5/6100) with the aim to utilize strength of Alumni of the Cadet College Kohat (CCK) and other members of the society to contribute to the betterment of the society through volunteerism spirit
What is the purpose and the objectives of Kohatians Foundation?
Kohatians Foundation in a non-political, non-partisan, non-sectarian manner shall utilize the strength of Alumni of the Cadet College Kohat (CCK) and other members of the society to contribute to the betterment of the society through volunteerism spirit.
Objectives
- To apply the corpus and the income of the society for providing relief to the Kohatians and /or their dependents.
- To provide Qarz-e-Hasna, on merit, to deserving cadet studying at Cadet College Kohat who due to circumstances beyond their control cannot support their education at the college.
- To provide Qarz-e-Hasna or scholarship on merit to deserving dependent of beneficiaries for the purposes of education at approved institutions.
- To extend medical facilities to the beneficiaries or their dependents
What is the selection process used for identifying students eligible for financial assistance for Cadets of CCK?
- Three step selection process: Generally KF follows the steps outlined below (1) applications are solicited (2) applications are first assessed by a faculty member in CCK, currently Azmat Sahib, with his comments on their academic record, their lifestyle in CCK like their expenditures on luxury items (3) KF Management Board examines applications and compares applications with other applicants and budget agreed for financial assistance.
- Exclusion of cadets in class 8th. It is important to highlight that a decision was taken not to provide financial assistance to cadets in class 8th and in very few cases to class 9th. This decision was taken because it is not desirable (at this stage at least) to spread the message that those who cannot afford education in CCK can get admission with expectation that KF will finance their education in CCK. It would be almost impossible then to provide financial support. Exceptions to this rule are cadets who lose their earning parents and the sons of CCK support staff like house bearers, peons etc.
- Minimum level of support provided: Financial assistance to cadets was initiated after the devastating floods and terrorism where otherwise well-to-do families were left with little or no assets. KF would provide this minimum level support for cadets.
- Financial discipline along with strict selection criteria has strengthened KF: It has to be appreciated that KF was able to build financial reserves through a rigorous check on allocating funds for financial assistance. Had KF taken on large numbers of cadets for providing assistance, KF would have depleted its reserves.
- Number of Cadets supported is adjusted: KF adjusts the number of cadets or other students to whom financial assistance is provided according to funds available.
- PRIORITY CRITERIA:
- As the Kohatians Foundation does not have a regular source of income and the funds available are inadequate to meet requirements of all deserving Cadets and students, the Kohatians Foundation has to adopt a mechanism for assessing priorities. Applications are received by the Kohatians Foundation from deserving cadets and other deserving students in the month of March each year, just before the beginning of the academic year. The Kohatians Foundation Management Board assesses the applications and award financial assistance to deserving cadets / students based on the funds available.
- Financial assistance to Cadets and other deserving students is given on term/ annual basis. Kohatians Foundation cannot guarantee payment of financial assistance for all expenses for the full year and/or full stay in the college. Cadets / other students receiving assistance have to accept the possibility that the Kohatians Foundation may be unable to continue payment of the financial assistance due to shortage of funds or change in policies. For cadets, first preference is given to deserving cadets who are about to appear in a board exam i.e. in class 9th/10th or in class 12th. The Cadets who have just joined the CCK in class 8th are not eligible for receiving financial assistance from Kohatians Foundation Similarly for students in other institutions, financial assistance is preferably provided to those who require one time assistance and can continue studies without Kohatians Foundation assistance over the long run.
